Utility

Utility substations represent a critical environment, operating a range of potentially volatile equipment. Critical fault gases can build up in transformers, leading to increased temperatures and the potential for dangerous fires or explosions. To ensure that catastrophic failures are avoided, highly precise, real-time monitoring is essential. Telkonet’s Series 5 high-grade powerline communications (PLC) system is specifically designed to meet the exacting network demands of substations, power plants and utility sites. It transforms low-voltage AC and DC wiring into an intelligent networking platform, enabling data to be transmitted in real time to monitor the conditions of the transformer and other equipment via an Ethernet or serial interface. By using the existing electrical infrastructure, Telkonet Series 5 eliminates the need for trenching, conduit wiring, or other direct wiring between the field components and the field house in a substation, resulting in significant cost savings and enabling rapid deployment.

“…Above all, we have been extremely impressed at the resilience of Telkonet’s technology, making it an ideal platform for the harsh and demanding substation environment.”
Steve Jennings, Chief Marketing Officer, BPL Global

Telkonet Series 5 delivers a range of significant performance advances, including high bandwidth (200 Mbps), built-in Ethernet, RS232 and RS484 interface, withstands extended temperature ranges, and delivers secure transmission, meeting evolving North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards.

Energy Solutions
Education facilities managers are faced with a daunting set of challenges: They must find new ways to reduce energy consumption and carry out greener energy policies. HVAC typically accounts for more than 30 percent of a buildingÕs electricity costs, so there is a clear incentive to eliminate unnecessary heating and cooling of unoccupied rooms. Read more
